The Glycemic Index is a measure of all foods that contain carbohydrate, such as potatoes, corn, fruit, flour, pasta, sugar, breads, rice, and legumes.
The Glycemic Index was developed by research scientists and dietitians at the University of Sydney, Australia.
GI is short for Glycemic Index, an index or list of foods that have been ranked from 0 to 100, based on the impact they have on blood sugar levels after eating. Basically, the GI measures the speed that foods are broken down by the body to form glucose. High GI foods break down more rapidly than low GI foods. Low GI foods help you feel full for a longer period of time. The GI includes carbohydrate-containing foods like vegetables (potatoes and corn), fruits, pasta, rice and bread. It does not include foods that provide protein such as meat, chicken or eggs.
Are you still asking yourself what all this means, and how it will help you lose weight? It’s not really a simple answer, but it is easy once you understand.

Does protein slow down how fast you burn fat or sugars?
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteThanx for your question. Whenever you eat a carbohydrate and protein together the protein will help slow the carbohydrate. Almost all protein has fat in it, except for supplements, and legumes.
Hope that helps!
Diana
Yes, because it slows thr carbs down, deos that make it not quite as bad for your diet?
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't make it "Quite" as bad, but it also depends a few other things, the answer isn't all that simple. You can get the complete and full description by going to our website. Take some time and read through some of the health library subjects, this may help you get a better understanding.
Thanx,
Diana
Do Individual differences in insulin secretion explain why some individuals respond well to either a low-fat diet or low–glycemic-load diet, when others don’t? I was told a simple, baseline oral glucose tolerance test to assess serum insulin concentration may help clinicians and dieticians choose weight-loss strategies for overweight people, do you agree with this?
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for such and intelligent question. Here’s your answer:
A Low Glycemic-Load Diet is better than low fat diets for weight loss in those with high insulin secretions. It is individual however and some respond well to one or the other.
The baseline oral glucose tolerance test does assess serum insulin concentration and will help clinicians and dieticians choose the best weight-loss strategy, but this process would normally only be used with obese individuals.
Whew, that was some question! In the future unless you just love reading medical journals and digging into the bowels of one of the most complex issues of this program I would suggest you just follow the program as it’s written at www.scandinaviandiets.com
We've already done all this research so that you don't have to. Good luck!
Thank you,

Now I will follow your diet! You obviously know what you’re talking about. I’m just tired of the diet of the month, and you understand the science behind yours.
